4/8/20 Tornado Rips Through Tarentum, New Kensington – Storm Damage In Western PA

Large storms rolled through Tarentum and New Kensington on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, bringing heavy winds and a tornado along with it. Winds caused damage, including ripping the roof off of St. Mary of Czestochowa on Kenneth Avenue in New Kensington.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts reached 75 mph and a tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Tarentum early in the morning.

There are currently over 60,000 people without power after the severe thunderstorms knocked down utility lines and trees across Western Pennsylvania. Luckily, there doesn’t appear to be any injuries.

Areas Affected By The Storm

A majority of the homes affected were in New Kensington, Tarentum, Apollo, and surrounding Pennsylvania areas. Roofs, siding, and windows were damaged due to the large winds.
