How New Kensington, PA’s Weather Can Affect Your Roof

New Kensington, Pennsylvania is no stranger to incredible snowstorms and adverse weather conditions. Not many have forgotten, what was dubbed the ‘Snowmageddon’ of February 2010. Snow, rain, sleet, hail, wind, all these elements make up a typical Pennsylvania winter. While some may enjoy this winter wonderland, these natural elements can sometimes wreak havoc on your home, specifically your roof.

While roofs are meant to last you between 20-30 years, severe storms and weather conditions can have a drastic impact on their lifespan. Older roofs and those less frequently maintained are often less likely to withstand nature’s onslaught than newly installed and regularly maintained ones.

Asphalt Shingle Roofs

The asphalt shingle roof is the most popular roof type in the United States. While the roof material is versatile and durable, severe weather conditions can have drastic impacts on the material. These include things like chipping, cracking, curling, loosening or breaking off entirely.

Gutters

Gutters play a fundamental role in your home’s roofing system. Gutters help to remove excess water from your roof and also by channeling this excess water away from your home, they prevent your walls from being water-stained. Strong gusts of wind and hail are capable of breaking and completely dislodging your gutters, leaving your home exposed to excess water.

Roof Leaks

Roof leaks are an issue that needs to be repaired immediately to prevent water from damaging the rest of your roof and your home. Roof leaks during a storm are pretty common especially if the storm has already gotten rid of some of your asphalt shingles or has broken your gutters. Roof leaks can cause the weakening of your roof’s structure as well as the inner structures of your home. They can also lead to the growth of moss, fungi, and algae in your roof and home.

Falling Debris

Severe weather and major storms are capable of breaking tree branches or bringing down the entire tree. If there are large, looming trees that shade your home, there is a possibility that these can break during a massive storm, damaging your roof in the process.

While these may all sound incredibly daunting, rest assured that Pittsburgh’s leading contractor is there to repair any damage that may be inflicted on your roof. And if need be we also provide exceptional roof replacement services. Let us worry about your roof while you protect your family and your home.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mike provided me with an thorough and detailed estimate for our roof, complete with drone shots. The crew worked efficiently in the 90+ degree weather over two days to replace my roof. Kenny was the project manager and was very helpful and informative in coordinating the job throughout the whole process. The crew did an excellent job in cleaning up during the job and afterwards. The overall company was very professional and easy to work with, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to get a new roof. Whalen Exteriors is a class act in the roofing business!
