Most Common Roof Problems In New Kensington

Western Pennsylvania, much like the rest of Pennsylvania experiences a humid continental climate. This means that the area experiences hot, humid summers and incredibly cold and icy winters. This climate, while some might enjoy it, can cause significant issues for your home and specifically your roof.

The roofers of Whalen Exteriors are expertly trained to look out for all your roofing needs. Over our 38 years in the roofing business, we have pretty much seen it all.

Here are some of the most common roofing issues people deal with in New Kensington, PA.

Storm Damage

In New Kensington, we are no stranger to severe weather conditions. Every so often a storm sweeps through our neighborhoods and leaves a path of destruction in its wake. This destruction often includes the roofs of our homes. Severe winds can cause asphalt shingle roofing to lift, tear or break off completely. The winds can also result in trees blowing over onto roofs, damaging them in the process. Often a combination of heavy rain and wind can also cause gutters to dislodge or break.

Old Roofs

It doesn’t matter whether your roof is made from asphalt shingle, cedarwood, or metal, any roof requires maintenance. A common problem that we’ve come across in the New Kensington area is the lack of roof maintenance. A normal roof ought to last you 30-40 years. However, if a roof is not regularly maintained, its lifespan can be drastically reduced. It is thus recommended to regularly maintain and repair any minor damages that your roof may have before you have to consider replacing it.

Roof Leaks

Roof leaks can be a combination of many things. It can be a result of an old, failing roof. It can be a result of a lack of maintenance and repair. It can also be caused by clogged gutters and water overspilling and leaking into your home as a result. Roof leaks are an easy repair if seen immediately. If not, it can become a major issue that could weaken the structures of your entire home.

Damaged Shingles

Asphalt shingles tend to last about 25-30 years. When shingles are damaged they can be individually replaced if need be. Common causes of damaged shingles include severe weather conditions, intense UV rays, age, foot traffic, etc.

The crew worked efficiently in the 90+ degree weather over two days to replace my roof. Kenny was the project manager and was very helpful and informative in coordinating the job throughout the whole process. The crew did an excellent job in cleaning up during the job and afterwards. The overall company was very professional and easy to work with, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to get a new roof. Whalen Exteriors is a class act in the roofing business!
